About Me
I am a freelance solicitor regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) (SRA ID: 430629). I was admitted as a solicitor of England and Wales in 2017. I also hold an active license to practice law in Israel, where I was admitted in 2013.
All solicitors are bound by the SRA Principles and must act:
-
in a way that upholds the constitutional principle of the rule of law, and the proper administration of justice.
-
in a way that upholds public trust and confidence in the solicitors' profession and in legal services provided by authorised persons.
-
with independence.
-
with honesty.
-
with integrity.
-
in a way that encourages equality, diversity and inclusion.
-
in the best interests of each client.
The SRA uses the term freelance solicitor to describe a self-employed solicitor who is:
-
practising on their own, and does not employ anyone else in connection with the services they provide
-
practising in their own name (rather than under a trading name or through a service company)
-
engaged directly by clients with fees payable directly to them without that practice being authorised.
I do not carry on reserved legal activity, which means:
(a) the exercise of a right of audience;
(b) the conduct of litigation;
(c) reserved instrument activities;
(d) probate activities;
(e) notarial activities;
(f) the administration of oaths.
Schedule 2 of the Legal Services Act 2007 makes provision about what constitutes each of those activities.
Complaints policy
I take any complaint very seriously. Please contact me in the first instance by email to mark@markhamilton.law and I will investigate the matter and respond expeditiously. I aim to deal with any complaints promptly, fairly, openly, and effectively. If I am unable to resolve the matter, you may contact the Legal Ombudsman at www.legalombudsman.org.uk or the SRA.
Insurance
I am not required to hold professional indemnity insurance. Also, you will not be eligible to apply for a grant from the SRA Compensation Fund.
